Whether you’re staying at The Turing Locke or not, you will certainly want to pay a visit to the newest addition to the Cambscuisine restaurant family: The Astronomer. Both The Turing Locke and The Astronomer names pay homage to Alan Turing. The famed mathematician, computer scientist, philosopher, and more, is synonymous with Cambridge and he had a particular interest in astronomy. Whether it’s a coffee catch-up, leisurely lunch or a celebration dinner, The Astronomer caters to every occasion with finesse. We were very interested to find out about the launch of their delicious new brunch menu, which gives us the perfect excuse for a return visit! On arrival, Tiago and his team were on hand to make us feel welcome and led us to a table in the skilfully designed restaurant. With a modern industrial feel there is a mixture of luxury elegance with just the right amount of urban edginess, for balance. Boasting high ceilings and huge windows around the sides of the room, this venue feels spacious and is flooded with warm and natural light whilst still managing to maintain an intimate and cosy feel by breaking up the space with booths, tables and greenery. We noted that the bar was well stocked with a carefully curated selection of draught beers and wines amongst a variety of other options, so something to wet everyone’s whistle! After ordering drinks and taking in our surroundings, it was time to focus on the menu. It truly was a challenge to make a choice with such a delectable offering of dishes, crafted from the finest, freshest seasonal ingredients. From classic favourites through to dishes with more of an unusual twist, it was clear that the menu had been created with an abundance of thought, skill and consideration. Even the side dishes were carefully crafted and certainly not the afterthought they can be. Whilst choosing, we ordered some nibbles for the table. The standout favourite was the Pork Crackling with apple & gooseberry sauce, which was just as mouthwatering as it sounds! The sweet and sharp sauce perfectly balanced the rich intensity of the crispy crackling. Main courses included a buttermilk chicken burger which was served in a delicious sourdough bun and the miso glazed cod loin with gnocchi and an incredible coconut dashi (a type of broth) which tasted phenominal. When it came to dessert time, we had to battle to find room so settled on sharing a pudding that we just couldn’t say no to; the Black Forest Gateaux. This childhood favourite is seldom found on a menu these days so we seized the opportunity and were certainly not disappointed!

a mixture of luxury elegance with just the right amount of urban

In conclusion, both The Turing Locke and The Astronomer offer more than just accommodation and dining experiences —they offer a warm embrace, a sanctuary from the everyday, and a chance to create lasting memories.
