Set in the idyllic surroundings of Ben’s Yard just outside Ely, Amélie Restaurant is fast becoming a favourite for those seeking delicious food in a relaxed, family-friendly setting.
Known for its vibrant atmosphere and signature flammekueche, it also turns out to be a fantastic spot for a classic British Sunday Roast. Amélie is run by father-and-son team Regis and Alex Crepy, whose passion for good food and hospitality shines through. With a background in fine dining and award-winning restaurants across East Anglia, they have created a space that feels warm, welcoming, and refreshingly unique. Their commitment to quality, creativity, and customer experience is evident from the moment you walk through the door. The kitchen is headed up by Head Chef Rory Landells, the creative mind behind Amélie’s delicious offerings, whose flair and passion bring the menu to life with every dish.
Amélie at Ben’s Yard has also recently beenawarded two prestigious AA Rosettes – atestament to its culinary excellence andcreativity. And the Crepys’ culinary journeydoesn’t stop there: from 26th April, they’ll alsobe running a new Amélie residency at the PizzaBarn at Wyken Vineyards, Suffolk, offeringexciting new flavours in another beautifulcountryside setting. Amélie at Wyken will beopen Fridays to Sundays and 5 days a weekduring the summer months, bringing theirsignature touch to this charming destination.
On our recent visit, we tucked into their Sunday Roast – a hearty, flavoursome dish that truly cements Amélie as a must-visit Sunday destination. The roast was everything you’d hope for: generous portions, perfectly cooked meat, crisp roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables, and rich, velvety gravy. Alongside it, we tried the sea bass – a lighter option that was equally delicious, beautifully cooked, and full of fresh flavour.
The children’s menu didn’t disappoint either. Our younger ones chose between the roast and the cheeseburger – and our eldest son proudly declared his burger the best he’d ever had (and trust us, he’s had a fair few!).
The warm, welcoming service and relaxed ambience made the experience even more enjoyable, whether you’re there for a long, leisurely lunch or a quick bite with the family. And why not make a day of it? After your meal, have a wander around the lovely shops at Ben’s Yard, enjoy a stroll along one of the nearby trails, or simply sit back witha coffee while the children burn off their energy at the impressive adventure playground. Inspired by Ely Cathedral,the wooden play structure is a hit with kids of all ages, offering hours of imaginative fun.
Amélie at Ben’s Yard is the kind of place you’d return to again and again, whether for a relaxed lunch, a cosy date, or a family treat. Next trip, we’re going back to try the famous flammekueche – or perhaps their afternoon tea, which sounds equally tempting. Amélie’s is more than just a place to eat – it’s a brilliant family day out wrapped up with excellent food and charming countryside surroundings.
