Royston’s own George Crotty, a distinguished amateur boxer and long-serving Royal Marine, is stepping into the professional boxing arena under the guidance of Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions. Known for his tenacity and remarkable track record in the amateur circuit, Crotty is now embarking on a new chapter, aiming for professional success as a super middleweight.
A Career Forged in Dedication
Crotty, 29, from Royston, Hertfordshire, boasts an impressive amateur career that spanned 149 bouts, with victories in 122 of them. A former Great Britain Podium squad member, he earned accolades including ABA senior champion, Tri-Nations gold medalist, and multiple international titles. Notably, he was crowned GB Boxer of the Year in 2020. Despite missing out on Olympic qualification for Paris 2024, Crotty’s amateur journey remains a testament to his skill and perseverance.
Reflecting on his amateur career, Crotty said:
“I really enjoyed my time in the amateurs… Then to travel the world, going to training camps and competitions. It was really good, and I have no regrets.”
Crotty’s achievements extend beyond boxing. With 10 years of service in the Royal Marines, his discipline and dedication will continue to shape his professional journey.
Entering the Pro Ranks
Making the transition to the pros, Crotty will compete at super middleweight—a shift from his amateur light heavyweight days. This change, enabled by the absence of daily weigh-ins, signals his readiness to make an impact in the professional division.
“I am really excited to be signed by Frank and Queensberry because I feel like they are the biggest… I am happy to be part of that now, with all the top fighters,” Crotty said.
Training under Sab Leo in Hertfordshire, Crotty brings a unique blend of amateur precision and professional ambition. His hand speed and fitness, which he likens to champions like Joe Calzaghe and Dmitry Bivol, are expected to be key assets in his style.
A New Challenge, Same Marine Spirit
Even as he turns pro, Crotty remains a proud Royal Marine Commando, planning to honor his military roots with potential military-style ring walks for future title bouts. Reflecting on his dual commitment, Crotty shared:
“So I really got looked after by the Marines and hopefully I can help them drive recruitment by making a name for myself in boxing.”
